What Is Block Structure?
A blockchain is composed of sequential blocks, each containing a set of validated transactions and metadata linking it cryptographically to the previous block. Understanding block structure helps researchers interpret blockchain data and comprehend why blockchain records are considered immutable.
Anatomy of a Blockchain Block
Each block in a blockchain typically contains:
- Block header: Metadata including the previous block hash, timestamp, and consensus data
- Transaction list: The set of validated transactions included in this block
- Merkle root: A cryptographic summary of all transactions in the block, enabling efficient verification
- Block hash: A cryptographic fingerprint of the entire block header
- Block number (height): The sequential position of this block in the chain
TRON Block Structure
TRON blocks have specific characteristics:
- Block interval: 3 seconds
- Block size limit: 2000 transactions per block under standard conditions
- Block producer identification: Each block identifies the Super Representative who produced it
- Block reward: SR receives TRX reward for each block produced
The Role of the Block Hash
The block hash is central to blockchain immutability. It is computed from the block’s complete header data. Changing any element of a block — even a single transaction — would change the block’s hash, which would break the chain’s continuity since subsequent blocks reference the previous block’s hash. This chain of references is what makes alteration of historical records computationally infeasible.
Reading Block Data on TronScan
TronScan provides a block explorer interface where researchers can examine individual blocks, including:
- Block number and timestamp
- Producing Super Representative address
- Transaction count and list
- Block size and resource consumption
Studying blocks directly on the explorer is an excellent way to build intuitive understanding of blockchain structure. For more guidance, visit our Research Guides, FAQ, Safety Guide, or contact our team.
